Fairs have been part of community activities in Alberta since the late 1800's. Fairs are an entertainment event, an educational opportunity, a competition and any activity that suits the needs of a community.
A bench fair (or bench show) is a community event, often part of a larger country or agricultural fair in places like Alberta, Canada, where local residents display and compete with their homemade goods, crafts, baked items, artwork, and homegrown produce like flowers and vegetables, all judged and admired on tables or "benches". It's a tradition celebrating rural skills, fostering community participation, and showcasing local talent in categories from sewing and photography to canning and quilting.
